State Police use helicopter to rescue missing man with dementia near Lansing. What we know

ORLEANS — Michigan State Police used a helicopter to find and rescue an 80-year-old man with dementia who had gone missing hours before in Ionia County.

The crew of “Trooper 2” spotted the man lying in a wooded area, and ground units arrived to administer medical care, officials from MSP’s Sixth District said in an Aug. 21 news release.

Orleans is located off M-44, north of Ionia and west of M-66.

“Excellent job by all involved and our eyes in the sky!” the release proclaimed.

Troopers from the Lakeville Post were called to a home in the 900 block of West Long Lake Road about 7 p.m. Aug. 20 after the man had been missing without his required mediation for about two hours, according to the release.
